MES DESIRS SONT DESORDRES
L'ordre!! Mais aime t-on tellement recevoir des ordres? Mais aime t on tellement se retrouver en rang? Je me méfie toujours des hommes d'ordre et des femmes rangées - mais sans apprécier d'avantage, il est vrai, les hommes de désordre et les femmes dérangées. Mon Dieu comme ces notions d'ordre et de rangement demeurent contradictoires et aussi ambigües que les mots qui les définissent.
Se ranger, n'est ce pas s'immobiliser, vieillir, bref, s'approcher de la mort? Mais quelqu'un de dérangé est aussi un individu dont le délire l'écarte de la vie. L'ordre est militaire, il s'habille d'un uniforme. A fuir! Le désordre renvoie à toutes les démissions A fuir aussi! Mais au diable les abstractions et retour vers une consolante intimité domestique !
D'une pièce à l'autre de la maison, mon humeur varie. Non, je ne supporte pas une bibliothèque bien alignée et classée à la parade. Les joies vagabondes de la littérature ne s'accordent pas à tant de discipline. Aux livres au garde-à-vous, plus reliés que relus, je préfère les livres éparpillés, plus relus que reliés
J'aime une maison que le désordre infiltre peu à peu, comme un sédiment de la vie qui passe. Et j'aime aussi le sursaut salutaire des grands nettoyages et classements saisonniers, comme une remise à neuf qui dilate le coeur . Ce lent va-et-vient entre deux tentations me parait, en somme la respiration même de la maison. Et l'une des clés du bonheur de vivre

It was an instrument like a small racket, used for playing shuttlecock. The term was applied to the wooden or cardboard tablets, which gradually superceded and refined the hornbook as a device for teaching children to read.
Like the hornbook,a battledore was an early kind of reading book for young children.The paper used to make a battledore was a thin cardboard. The card was usually cut into a rectabgle and then folded in thirds. Some early battledores were shaped like hornbooks.
Battledores were introduced in England in the late 1700s

Battledores also had lists of short words, they normally had a short story or fable instead. Finally, a typical battledore was decorated with illustrations. These were generally pictures of everyday life that would have been familiar to children of the time

The Pilgrims believed that everyone should seek the word of God in the Bible, which was now available in English translations. In order to read the Bible, the young boys and girls were taught to read, using hornbooks.
The hornbook was very rudimentary in that it gave the alphabet in both capital and small letters, the vowels, and samples of syllable sounds. Sometimes the consonants were also included. This was generally followed by a Bible text and the Lord's Prayer.
The text was printed on paper or parchment and mounted on a board with a small handle. The text was then covered with a protective sheet of transparent animal horn -- hence the name hornbook. In order to scrape the horn thin enough to be dimly transparent, the horn had to be boiled in water to soften it and make it pliable. However, the scraping must be done quickly, since the horn dries and hardens very rapidly when exposed to the air.
The handles of many hornbookshad holes with a string so that theycould be worn around the neck or fastened to a belt.Thus, hornbooks would not be lost on the way to school and were easily accessible.
Sometimes the text was painted directly on a paddle of wood and left unprotected by horn. When this was done, the paddle was called a "battledore."
Sometimes the lessons for pupils would be written in doggerel rhyme as an aid to memory. One of these, which is still familiar today, was "Thirty days hath September. . ."
The pupils may have had bits of paper on which to write out their lessons, but it would have been quite common for them to use birch bark. If handled gently, birch bark served very well as a paper substitute. Lead pencils would have been rare in those early days. More than likely the pupils would have used a "plummet" of lead -- real lead -- and not the graphite which is used in pencils today
